What’s up with all the chatter about abs and how to get them?
It is assumed nowadays that the possession of abs resembling a washboard is something very desirable, although comparatively few folks, it seems, actually manage to attain this. But occasionally I do hear someone ask, “What’s the big deal about abs in the first place? Why should I concern myself with trying to get them?”
Of course, all of us have abdominal muscles, and that is what we mean when we talk about abs. However, they are for the most part invisible, concealed under paddings of fat, unless we diet and exercise to bring them into view.
So then, everyone has abs. Now the question beomces is, why would we spend time and effort to try to develop on them? Why spend the effort to attain a “six pack” down there?
Here are three good reasons:
1. To look good. This could seem obvious, but then, why not concern ourselves just as much about attempting to achieve well-mucled arms and legs? Nothing wrong with nicely developed limbs, of course. However, with the right mix of diet and exercise, attaining a chiseled abdomen is actually easier and faster than developing a bulging bicep. If you want to look good fast, target your efforts at those abs!
2. To feel healthy and strong. Our abdominals rest at the very core of our bodies. They lend critical support to our center and especially to our organs. Well-defined abs virtually shout good health and strength.
3. To fill us with motivation. Because, when you work on them correctly, the abdominal muscles are fairly easy to develop (despite what you have been told), being able to see them in all their glory in the mirror will certainly pump up your esteem and strengthen your resolve to improve the other parts of yourself.
So, there you have my answers to the question, “Why abs?” Some people will accept them, yet then go on to say that achieving desirable taut abs is too much work, and perhaps out-and-out impossible in some individuals. Don’t believe it!
I am not going towill not] try to kid you and say that you can develop amazing abs in a month, or with partial effort. But what I do say is that if you correct your food intake to rid yourself of an overabundance of carbs and sugar, and do the right kind of exercises (which are not always the ones you might first think of), you will be able to astonish yourself and impress others with your tight, defined abdominals.
