More Reasons to Avoid Fatty Foods

A lot of people gain weight because of excessive consumption of fatty foods. One reason why this happens is because frying is such a convenient way of cooking and that there are countless fried dishes that really do taste good. Also, many snacks we enjoy like chips and cookies, are laden with fats. Unfortunately too much fat is bad for the health. Weight gain is the most obvious consequence of eating too many fatty foods although there are several other diseases that result from it as well.

People who follow a low-fat diet are healthier, have more energy and are less prone to weight gain and obesity. Despite the preponderance of studies that show fat is not good for you, new studies that say the same thing continue to come out. Recently, researchers discovered a signaling pathway that is operational in intra-abdominal fat. This is the type of fat that is linked the closest to obesity-related morbidity.

What this shows is that fat tissue is not simply a place in which excess calories are stored but is in fact an active tissue which secretes multiple compounds and communicates with other tissues such as the liver, pancreas, brain, and muscles. However, the latter function may also lead to diseases including hypertension, diabetes, colon and stomach cancer.

It should be our goal then to get rid of fatty deposits that have built-up in our system through regular exercise. The good thing about it is that it doesn’t have to be a full-blown gym workout, a half hour daily exercise routine would be sufficient.

If one does not have that much time to spare, the routine can even be divided into two components and the effect would still be the same. Apart from exercise, a balanced diet that includes protein, carbohydrates and a lot of fiber is also necessary. Note that fats are NOT part of the diet.

This does not mean however, that all fats are bad. There are certain fats that aid the body in the secretion of good hormones although these should be taken from healthy sources such as dairy products. The type of fat that should be avoided are those which come from fatty deposits of poultry, beef and other sources of red meat.

What this boils down to is the need to make right food choices. Getting rid of excess fat in the body and being in better health can be best achieved by eating balanced meals and exercising regularly.
