Fitness Is The Key
Staying fit, lean and in good health is fairly simple, and we all know what it takes to accomplish it. The issue is that we get too much information, and most of the times it is conflicting. In fact, it is a great example of information overload. And as great as the Internet is, and all the advancements in how we communicate, and how much more quickly information flows and is available to us, this ability to immediately access tons of information also plays against us. If you don’t know what to look for, it can cause you to get stuck due to paralysis of analysis. So now we are going to discuss some ways you can lose weight, get healthy and increase your level of fitness without making things complicated.
Rule number 1 is that you can’t ever overcome a bad diet through exercise. This is critical. If you think you can out-exercise a bad habit where you are overeating by a large margin, think again. It just won’t happen. Reason? The reason is because nearly everybody overestimates the calories that the body burns off through exercise. That is, compared to how quickly you can take in a large number of calories. Let’s take a typical greasy meal from your fast food restaurant of choise. Did you know that a simple burger, fries and drink meal might have as much as 1500 calories, in just that one sitting? Compare that to the typical 500 to 750 calories for one meal. In a single meal, that equates to 750 to 1000 extra calories! And what about dinner time, did you eat too much then too? Now you’re looking at even more extra calories.
And the result from all that extra food is: fat. When your body has too many calories (more calories or energy than it needs) it stores the excess as body fat. What is the consequence of that happening all the time? That’s 3500 calories extra each week which equals one pound of fat. If you do that every week, that is 4 pounds gained per month, or if you do that for a year, it equals 48 pounds gained in one year! So what does all this have to do with fitness? Here’s the point: you cannot use fitness to overcome a bad diet. That is not what fitness is for. Fitness cannot possibly burn off the large amount of excess calories that can be taken in so easily. A good diet and fitness program work together to keep you at a good, manageable weight, and keep you looking fit and looking good. But one cannot fix the other.
The problem I see some people struggling with is that they only exercise when they’re in dieting more. And this is a problem. Is like asking someone if they want to be fit and healthy for 2 months versus being fit and healthy for life. Easy answer isn’t it. But some folks miss the fact that getting and staying fit is a lifestyle. And a fun and exciting one at that. And this is coming from someone who used to be a total couch potato. Switching from a once-in-a-while exercise to a lifestyle where I consistently exercised three time per week was something that change my life completely.
